Kind Characters, Kind Kids

Updated: May 3

Parents know how important it is to model kind behavior to their children. Just as children learn from watching their parents, research shows that children also learn by watching their favorite characters on T.V.

Several recent studies have confirmed that when children watch media of characters treating one another kindly, they begin to emulate what they see on screen.

Children who were shown a movie scene in which one character helps another were significantly more likely to display helping behavior afterward than children in the control group (de Leeuw & van der Laan, 2018).

This effect is true even for children as young as 2 and 3-years old! When children watch prosocial content, they tend to act more empathetic themselves (Rasmussen et al., 2016; Christakis et al., 2013).

The takeaway? What your toddler watches matters. Fairy’s House is committed to modeling empathy and compassion on-screen, so that your child grows in their kindness off-screen.
